Stay connected for news and updates

The Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-0 in a rain-shortened game at Wrigley Field on Sunday.

Cubs starter Chris Volstad picked up his first win of 2012 with a solid performance that lasted 6-2/3 innings. He gave up just three hits and finished the day with three strikeouts to go with three walks.

The Cubs offense got the scoring started in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Darwin Barney. Barney picked up his second RBI of the day with a sixth-inning single that scored Starlin Castro. The Cubs took a 2-0 lead into the eighth, where they added three insurance runs. The Rockies would not get a chance to answer in the ninth, as that's when the game was called.

The Cubs improved to 50-77 with the victory.
