The Barclays 2012 Results: Nick Watney Wins Tournament At 10-Under

Despite entering the day with a two-stroke deficit, Nick Watney came away victorious on Sunday at New York's famed Bethpage Black, to kick off the 2012 FedEx Cup Playoffs in style.

After firing a 65 on Thursday to open the tournament, Watney needed just a 2-under 69 in his final round to cruise to a three-shot victory on a day when the majority of the field stumbled. With Sergio Garcia, the tournament's 54-hole leader, among the many unable to find his rhythm on day four, 2011 champion Dustin Johnson ascended the leaderboard to finish in a tie for third place at 6-under. Along with Johnson in a tie for third was Garcia, while Brandt Snedeker finished alone in second at 7-under.

Luke Donald, a graduate of Northwest University, also put forth a strong week in New York with a string of consistent performances that put him in a tie for 10th place. Donald posted rounds of 69 and 70 over the weekend to hang around with the leaders, but ultimately was not able to overcome his frustrating final round of 74 on Friday.

2012 Barclays: Sergio Garcia Leads By One Stroke Early On Sunday

As many of the players with early tee times begin to finish their final rounds, Sergio Garcia continues to lead the 2012 Barclays on Sunday afternoon. The Spaniard is at 9-under after bogeying the first hole of his final round, although Nick Watney is only one stroke behind with 17 holes remaining.

Northwestern graduate Luke Donald has been climbing up the leaderboard early on Sunday, as he's 2-under so far in his final round to improve his overall score to 4-under. He's now tied for tenth, although it would take a miracle for him to actually come back and win the tournament.

Steve Stricker isn't fairing so well on Sunday, as he's 1-over through 15 holes after shooting even in the first three rounds. With an overall score of 1-over, he's now tied for 40th on the leaderboard. The big riser of the day so far has been Graham Delaet, who finished his day at 6-under to boost his total score to 5-under.

2012 Barclays: Nick Watney, Sergio Garcia Share Lead

On Day Two of the 2012 Barclays tournament, the tournament lead switched hands to Nick Watney and Sergio Garcia after Thursday's leader, Padraig Harrington, finished four-over par on Thursday.

Steve Stricker, a University of Illinois alum, finished Friday even to keep his score at two-under par and stay in the top 30 of the tournament. Unfortunately for D.A. Points, the other Illini-grad in the tournament, he wasn't as fortunate as Stricker as he didn't make the cut after the first two days of The Barclays.

Tiger Woods, who appeared to suffer knee and lower back injuries after an awkward swing midway through his Friday round, still finished relatively strong and earned a spot in the top 10 of the tournament, three strokes off the lead.

The 2012 FedEx Cup Playoffs are officially underway from New York's famed Bethpage Black Course, with as many as 53 golfers currently under par on the first day of competition.
