Rory McIlory breezed to his second career major victory at the 2012 PGA Championship.
Illinois graduate Steve Stricker never truly threatened for the top spot at the 2012 PGA Championship, but a solid weekend earned him his 10th career top-10 finish in a major championship. Stricker was slightly over par in the tournament's first two rounds, but shot a 67 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 3-under, good for a tie for seventh place.
Northwestern graduate Luke Donald, who was the top-ranked player in the world heading into the major, had a disappointing showing, but a blistering round on Sunday helped him save face. Donald, who barely made the cut on Friday, shot a 66 on Sunday, bringing his overall score to 2-over, which tied him for 32nd place.
Rory McIlory won his second career major, blowing away the field at 13-under and with an eight-shot lead over second-place finisher David Lynn.
