2012 Summer Olympics Medal Count: Team USA, China Lead With 17 Medals

As of Monday evening, the United States and China remain at the top of the medal count in London. The United States had a successful day in the pool, where it picked up four medals. That includes the gold won by Northwestern alum Matt Grevers in the men's 100m backstroke final.

All told, the U.S. has won five gold medals, seven silver medals and five bronze medals. The Chinese have also won a total of 17 medals, nine of which are gold. Here is the current top five in the medal count standings:

3. Japan (11)
4. Italy (8)
5. France (7)
