Notre Dame Basketball: Contract Extension For Coach Mike Brey To Be Announced On Tuesday

Stay connected for news and updates

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will announce a new contract extension for head basketball coach Mike Brey during a news conference on Tuesday, as ESPN's Andy Katz reports. Brey's tenure with Notre Dame, which began way back in 2000, has generally been highly successful for the traditional football powerhouse.

After a mediocre stretch in the middle of the decade when the Fighting Irish failed to make the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons, Brey has rebounded the program in recent years. Since the 2006-2007 season, Notre Dame has been to five of the past six NCAA tournaments, including an appearance as a No. 2 seed last year.

Last year's appearance as a No. 2 was actually Notre Dame's highest seeding for the tournament since 1981, a reflection of the work that Brey has done with the program in recent years. Over 12 years in Notre Dame, Brey has compiled a 259-130 record with eight NCAA appearances and four NIT appearances.
