2012 Masters, Results And Recap: Consistent Watson Nabs Green Jacket

Bubba Watson didn't win any single round of the 2012 Masters, but he did win the entire tournament. It was consistency— Watson was one of two golfers to not shoot above 71 in any round— that was Watson's calling card at Augusta National over the weekend, and it allowed him to sneak up on Matt Kuchar and Louis Oosthuizen, the two players that led for most of Sunday's final round.

Which isn't to say, of course, that Watson didn't have any spectacular moments. Oosthuizen, who met Watson in the first Masters playoff since 2009, holed only the fourth double-eagle in Masters history on Sunday, but it was Watson's second shot on the playoff's second hole that will go down as one of the great single shots in the tournament's history. After finding himself deep in the woods on the course's 10th hole, Watson ripped a shot that went out into the hole's fairway before curving onto the green.

Oosthuizen pitched out of those same woods, but his shot fell short of the green, and after he chipped onto the green and narrowly missed his par put, Watson smoothly two putted for par to earn himself his first green jacket.

Local golfers Luke Donald and Steve Stricker had slightly less celebratory weekends than Watson. After playing over par all week, Donald shot a 68 on Sunday to drop to +3, a finish that earned him $45,280 in winnings. Stricker was not as fortunate, shooting a 75+ on Sunday that pushed him to +7 and tied for 47th.
