Stay connected for news and updates

The 2012 Horizon League Tournament reaches its crescendo on Tuesday night with the Championship Game between the top-seeded Valparaiso Crusaders and the No. 3 Detroit Titans at 8 p.m. central time on ESPN. Valpo is looking for their first NCAA tournament berth since 2004 as a member of the Mid-Continent Conference, while Detroit is hoping to return to March Madness and end their drought since 1999. Junior swingman Ryan Broekhoff put up a 19-point, 16-rebound double-double in the semifinals for the Crusaders, while Detroit guard Ray McCallum contributed 26 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and a block in the last round.

In the two regular season matchups, Valpo earned wins in both games. On Jan. 6 they pulled off a narrow road win by a score of 73-71, while their 78-73 home win in the rematch on Feb. 2 came with a bit more comfort. Even so, both contests have been extremely close games, and the championship for the right to the conference's automatic March Madness will raise the stakes and the intensity even higher.
