Olympics 2012: Anthony Davis Makes Team USA Roster For London

New Orleans center Anthony Davis has been chosen to replace the injured Blake Griffin on this year's Team USA basketball roster for the Olympics, as Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. The Chicago native is by far the youngest player on the 12-man roster, which features stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

A few days ago, it seemed unlikely that Davis would make the Team USA roster after failing to take the court due to an ankle sprain. That was before Griffin's knee injury opened up a spot on Thursday, forcing the Americans to scramble and bring back Davis to the roster.

On Thursday, Team USA looked quite strong in a 113-59 blowout of the Dominican Republic national team in front of a pro-U.S. crowd in Las Vegas. Davis turned heads near the end of the game when he knocked down a three-point shot while being fouled, much to the delight of the crowd.

Anthony Davis Files For Unibrow Trademarks

Chicago native Anthony Davis became well-known quickly not only because of his status as the top prospect in the 2012 NBA Draft but also because of his unibrow. Davis has filed for trademarks on a couple of unibrow-related phrases that have become popular over the last few months: "Fear the Brow" and "Raise the Brow."

Davis, a Chicago native, told CNBC that trademarks were filed for "Fear the Brow," a popular saying during Kentucky's national championship run, and "Raise the Brow."

The trademarks applications aren't unheard of for incoming professional athletes.

After being sold by the NBA to a new owner earlier this year, the Hornets got another major stroke of luck on Wednesday. Landing the No. 1 pick in the draft essentially guarantees that the Hornets will soon add Kentucky center Anthony Davis soon, giving the team a brand new cornerstone after trading Chris Paul before last season.

The final order of the first five picks in the draft is the Hornets, Charlotte Bobcats, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings. The Hornets last had the No. 1 overall pick in 1991 when they selected forward Larry Johnson from UNLV.

Anthony Davis Added To Team USA Olympic Pool

Chicago native Anthony Davis had quite the freshman year at Kentucky. The power forward garnered a host of accolades including the Wooden Award and helped the Wildcats win the national championship. Davis is projected by everyone to be the No. 1 pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. But a month before he shakes David Stern's hand, Davis received another fine honor: this week, he was named to the 18-man pool which will make up Team USA in the 2012 Olympics.

Cuts are still to be made, but Davis' dominating defensive presence has to make him an appealing candidate to Coach K. Team USA has plenty of scorers, and pairing Davis with New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler would give the Americans an unparalleled defensive front line.

NBA Mock Draft: Chicagoan Anthony Davis Projected To Go No. 1

Tom Ziller's latest NBA mock draft may not surprise many with the suggestion that F Anthony Davis will go No. 1 to the Charlotte Bobcats in the upcoming 2012 draft, but Ziller's projections for Davis's total impact might shock a few analysts and fans:

1. BOBCATS: Anthony Davis, Kentucky

Marcus Camby mixed with Ken Griffey, Jr. mixed with a wallaby mixed with Frida Kahlo. He's going to start and end World Wars before he's done.

Camby, the rebound-hogging points-fiend, plus Griffey, a Hall-of-Fame-likely baseballer and one-time young phenom, plus a wallaby, a fuzzy, jumping animal, plus Kahlo, an artist who painted mustaches and sometimes people too, could very well make Davis, if not the savior of the the listless Bobcats, at least a cultural attraction in Charlotte unrivaled in previous seasons.

Anthony Davis In The NBA Draft: Chicago Native Projected No. 1 Overall By SB Nation

Kentucky Wildcats forward and Chicago's very own Anthony Davis was named AP Player of the Year on Friday. On Saturday, he'll lead the Wildcats into the Final Four against Louisville. It's certainly been a successful freshman season for the Chicago native Davis, and when it's all said and done, he'll likely enter the NBA Draft. Davis is unanimously considered to be the top overall prospect.

While Davis has yet to state his intentions to leave Kentucky, all signs point to the forward jumping to the next level. Our Tom Ziller has pegged Davis No. 1 in his most recent haiku-based mock draft for SB Nation.

1. CHARLOTTE BOBCATS: ANTHONY DAVIS

Anthony Davis:
the big unibrow that could
(get Cal a title?).

Davis will presumably be the second Chicago native to go No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft in the last five years. Former Simeon guard Derrick Rose was the top selection in the 2008 draft.
