Notre Dame Vs. West Virginia Preview: Fighting Irish Visit Mountaineers, Looking For 5th Straight Win

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the West Virginia Mountaineers for the first of two season matchups.

Feb 8, 2012 - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15-8) visit a strong West Virginia Mountaineers (16-8) team, looking to extend their winning streak to five games on Wednesday night.

Notre Dame enters the contest fresh off their 76-59 win over the Marquette Golden Eagles (20-5) in a game where four Irish starters crossed into double digits in points. Freshman G Pat Connaughton shone brightly in the game, snatching 11 rebounds and scoring 23 points.

On the season, Eric Atkins has the been the team's top scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game through 21 games. Against West Virginia, though, the Fighting Irish may need the most excellent play from F Jack Cooley, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, as they face the two-way threat of F Kevin Jones, who is averaging 20.8 points and 11.2 rebounds.
