Blackhawks Vs. Flames Recap: Calgary Beats Chicago 3-1

The Calgary Flames used a goal each from three of their stars to beat the Chiacgo Blackhawks 3-1 at home on Friday night. Olli Jokinen, Jay Bouwmeester and Jarome Iginla lit the lamp for Calgary, each in one of the three periods. The Blackhawks, meanwhile, saw only one goal on the night, from defenseman Brett Seabrook.

Jokinen started the scoring in the first, when he put the Flames up 1-0 with just over 12 minutes gone in the period. That was followed up towards the very end of the first by Seabrook, whose tying goal represented the closest that the Blackhawks would get all game. Bouwmeester would put his fourth goal of the season into the net barely over a minute to go in the second period, which was followed in the third by Iginla, whose 19th goal of the season came on assists by Alex Tanguay and Chris Butler.

Friday night's loss was the fifth in the row for Chicago, who will try to end the streak on Tuesday when they host the Colorado Avalanche.

Blackhawks Vs. Flames: Flames Take The Lead After Two

For the second time on Friday night, the Calgary Flames took the lead over the Chicago Blackhawks, but for the first time, they did not give it up. After relinquishing a 1-0 lead in the first period on a Patrick Sharp goal with 29 seconds remaining, the Flames took a 2-1 lead on Jay Bouwmeester's fourth goal of the season, which came with less than two minutes remaining in the second.

Bouwmeester's goal, which was assisted on by Blair Jones and Mikael Backlund, was scored on the power play. Michael Frolik had been sent to the box less than two minutes earlier for a double minor highsticking penalty on Calgary's Tom Kostopoulos.

More troubling for the Blackhawks is that they also gave up their goal lead, as the Flames head into the break having outshot Chicago 22-19.

Blackhawks Vs. Flames Preview: Hawks Look To Bounce Back After Ugly Loss

The best way for a team to get over a brutal loss like the one the Blackhawks had on Thursday in Edmonton is to get right back on the ice. That is exactly what they will be able to do as the Hawks will head to Calgary to face the Flames in their third game of a nine-game trip.

Friday's game will be the fourth of the season between Chicago and Calgary. The Blackhawks have won two of the first three including a 4-2 Hawks win back in December in their last meeting.

The scheduled goaltenders for Friday's Western Conference tilt will be Ray Emery (11-3-2, 2.57) for Chicago and Miikka Kiprusoff (22-17-3, 2.33) for Calgary. Emery gets the start after Corey Crawford was shelled in Edmonton on Thursday.

Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 PM CST. The game will be televised in Chicago on CSN.
