Northern Illinois Vs. Akron Preview: Huskies Look For Back-To-Back Wins Against First Place Zips

The Northern Illinois Huskies are going up against a tough Akron Zips squad on Saturday night. The Zips have won six games in a row, while the Huskies are looking for back-to-back wins to climb out of the cellar.

Feb 11, 2012 - The Northern Illinois Huskies men's basketball team has not been having the most solid season to date. They are currently tied for last place in the Mid-American Conference West with a 2-8 record in conference play and an overall record of 3-19.

On Saturday night, the Huskies will visit the MAC East first-place Akron Zips. Northern Illinois was able to snap a six-game losing streak on Wednesday with a win against the Miami (OH) RedHawks, but now face a Zips squad that is 9-1 in conference play and is currently riding a six-game winning streak. It will certainly be a tall order.

Should the Huskies manage to pick up the win, they may be able to leapfrog over the other cellar-dweller in the MAC West, the Central Michigan Chippewas, who themselves will visit the Miami RedHawks on Saturday night.

The Huskies and Zips will face off at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT in Ohio. The game will not be televised, but you can listen live via the Huskies athletics website.
