College Football Recruiting: Sheldon Day, Jarron Jones Lead Irish Official Commits

The fax machines have been humming in South Bend this morning as high school prospects have made their commitments to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish official by sending in their National Letters of Intent. The Irish's two biggest recruits— QB Gunner Kiel and CB Tee Shepard— have been on campus and with the football team for a few weeks already, but Brian Kelly and his staff secured some major names as well today.

The list is led by two defensive linemen ranked as four-star recruits by Rivals. Defensive tackle Jarron Jones is a defensive tackle out of Rochester, New York, and he's rated by Rivals as the No. 199 overall prospect in the country. He's joined by Sheldon Day, Rivals' No. 244 overall prospect, who comes to the Irish from Indianapolis, Ind. The two will join an Irish defensive line that has been reloaded in the past two classes by Kelly.

Here is the full list of players that have faxed their Letters of Intent to Notre Dame this morning:

  • Nick Baratti, DB, Tomball, Tex.
  • Chris Brown, WR, Hanahan, S.C.
  • Scott Daly, LS, Downers Grove, Ill.
