College Football Recruiting: Ken Eknamen Spurns Irish

Much of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish's 2012 recruiting class is set in stone, but there is still some fish out there on Signing Day. Unfortunately for Brian Kelly, one of them got reeled in by another school. Four-star LB/DE Ken Ekanmen from Clifton, Va. chose to stay close to home today, selecting the Virginia Tech Hokies over the Irish.

Ekanmen could've joined an Irish class that is heavy on defensive talent, but instead he'll get to be molded by Hokies defensive coordinator Bud Foster, among others. Here is SB Nation's Bill Elliot on what the Irish are missing out on:

The Hokies frequently use undersized, quick defenders, and Ekanem has a chance to play some defensive end as well. Virginia Tech will no doubt use him to get after the passer.

Ekanem was the 15th-highest outside linebacker in the Rivals rankings, trailing Deon Clarke and James Ross.
