The Wildcats made things interesting down the stretch but came up just short against the Cardinal.

Northwestern made it close but couldn't pull out a home victory Friday night over Stanford, losing 70-68.

Down 18 at one point in the first half, the Wildcats pulled within one before heading into halftime with a four-point deficit. Wildcats freshman guard Tre Demps tied the score at 61 with less than seven minutes to play and then hit a 3-pointer with 1:50 left to tie it again at 67, but junior guard Aaron Bright quickly answered with a decisive three to put the Cardinal up for good, 70-67.

Senior guard Reggie Hearn led the Wildcats with 18 points and seven rebounds. Freshman center Alex Olah chipped in with 16 points while Demps had 12 points off the bench.

Junior forward Josh Huestis tied his career-high with 18 points and pulled down 12 boards for the Cardinal. Junior guard Robbie Lemons scored 12 points and junior center John Gage came off the bench to score 12 as well.
