White Sox decide to bring back Dewayne Wise

Chicago signs veteran OF Dewayne Wise to a one-year contract after serving as a utility outfielder down the stretch for the White Sox in 2012.

The Chicago White Sox agreed to a one-year, $700,000 contract with Dewayne Wise, an in-season pick-up for Chicago in 2012.

Wise has played with six teams in his 10-year MLB career, batting .228/.264/.385 with 30 home runs in 1,045 at-bats. Most recently, he hit .258/.295/.405 for Chicago, after signing with Chicago in August.

The Yankees designated Wise for assignment, and released him when he didn't accept it on Aug. 3. He signed with the White Sox, and helped Chicago contend for the AL Central division crown this season.

The signing of Wise filled the White Sox 40-man roster ahead of the winter meetings, barring any trade activity.

Chicago had sole possession of first place in the AL Central before suffering a streak at the end of September that saw them lose 10 of 12 games. Detroit overtook them and eventually won the division by three games en route to the World Series.
