Northern Illinois vs. Ball State score: Turnover has Huskies trailing, 16-14, at half

Northern Illinois got things off to a proper start against Ball State, but things are a little too close for comfort, as they trail 16-14 at the half.

The Huskies had the lead until about seven minutes remained in the second quarter, when the Cardinals drove 85 yards on eight plays to bring it to 14-13 in favor of Northern Illinois, but quickly added 3 more thanks to a turnover, when Tommylee Lewis fumbled on the kickoff return.

Ball State quickly turned that fumble into 3 points for Steven Schott's third field goal of the day, despite losing yardage on the ensuing possession. Schott has field goals of 20 yards, 27 yards and 43 yards on the day, and their only touchdown was a Keith Wenning pass to Willie Snead for 12 yards.

Jordan Lynch has passed for 106 yards and has added 57 yards of rushing to lead them team in that area as well. He broke a 29-yard rushing touchdown to get the scoring started on the game, while Leighton Settle managed the other one on a 1-yard rush. Still, despite finding the end zone twice, they trail 16-14 in this one.
