Notre Dame vs. BYU score: Fighting Irish lead, 7-0, after first quarter

Jonathan Daniel

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish lead BYU 7-0 after one quarter of play on Saturday.

No. 5 Notre Dame is in the middle of what many referred to as a "trap game" against BYU on Saturday. After one quarter of play, the Fighting Irish have been unable to get things going against their un-ranked opponents. The score, through the first, is 7-0 in favor of Notre Dame, after Tommy Rees his Tyler Eifert for a 4-yard score late in the quarter.

Rees hit Eifert for a gain of 29-yards to start that drive off, which came from a BYU three-and-out. Cierre Wood had a 22-yard rush on the play, and that put the Fighting Irish firmly in BYU territory, and set up the touch down strike, which happened on a third-and-1 play.

The Irish would have a 10-0 lead, but Kyle Brindza missed a 40-yard field goal on Notre Dame's opening drive. BYU then drove into Notre Dame territory, but Riley Nelson was picked off by Manti Te'o, setting up the Irisih with decent field position. Rees was sacked by Bronson Kaufusi for a loss of eight yards on that drive though, so it didn't end in points for Notre Dame.
