The Chicago Blackhawks' losing streak is at three games after a 4-0 home loss to the Colorado Avalanche. The Blackhawks outshot the the Avalanche 27-22 but were blanked by Colorado goalie Sebastian Varlamov, who recorded his second shutout of the season.
The scoring started in the first period when Colorado's David Jones netted his eight goal of the season thanks to assists from Erik Johnson and T.J. Galiardi. Galiardi scored the second goal of the night for the Avs less than two minutes into the second period, it was his seventh of the season and came on assists from Paul Stastny and Johnson, once again. That goal was followed up almost seven minutes later by David Van der Gulik's first goal of the season. The Avs then added a garbage time goal with less than two minutes left on Chuck Kobasew's fifth goal of the season.
The Avs will try and break the streak on Sunday night at home vs. the Detroit Red Wings.

The Blackhawks do not know when they will see Steve Montador and Marcus Kruger back in the lineup -- the two were placed on injured reserve on Wednesday -- but they players are making progress and were able to skate on Friday:
The Blackhawks got encouraging news this afternoon on the injury front, as both defenseman Steve Montador and Marcus Kruger skated Friday morning. Both are still out for tonight's game. It's especially good news regarding Kruger, who's dealt with a concussion since Christmas time.
Montador, who is suffering from an undisclosed upper body injury, has five goals and five assists in 38 games this season. Kruger has three goals and seven assists.
The team called up two players to fill the holes left by Montador and Kruger, and one of them -- Andrew Shaw -- scored his first NHL goal on Thursday.

The Chicago Blackhawks hope to snap their current two-game losing streak Friday night, as they host the Colorado Avalanche (7:30 p.m. CT on CSNC).
If the Chicago Blackhawks are going to get back into the win column after a two-game losing streak, they are going to have to do some work in the third period. The Colorado Avalanche extended their lead on Friday night to 3-0 after two goals in the second period.
The first, to put the Avs up 2-0, came on T.J. Galiardi's seventh goal of the season. It was assisted by Paul Stastny and Erik Johnson, which was his second of the night. Denver's second goal of the period came a little less than halfway into the period on David Van Der Gulik's first goal of the season, which came on an assist from Gabriel Landeskog, his 13th of the season.
