Gavin Floyd And Sox Bullpen Take Care Of Baltimore

Gavin Floyd turned in another quality start for the Sox, while the bullpen helped preserve the lead through the final frames as the White Sox won a season high fifth game.

After falling in a four game sweep to the Yankees just last week, the five game win streak has shown the Sox are capable of putting together good pitching and a resurgent offense at the same time.

Floyd threw 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and one walk, while striking out four. The three runs all came in the bottom of the fifth inning, as the O’s strung together three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out. The Sox managed to get an out while allowing in one, but another single and a throwing error later and Baltimore put up two more before the inning was drawn to a close.

Still, it wouldn’t be enough, as by then the Sox had already hung four runs on Jo-Jo Reyes. Reyes pitching 4.0 innings, giving up four runs on five hits and two walks. Carlos Quentin and Brent Morel both hit solo shots off of Reyes, while the other two Sox runs came off good old fashioned small ball and clutch hitting.

Chicago’s bullpen locked in the win for the Sox as they prevented the O’s from getting a hit in the final 2 1/3 innings of the game. Sergio Santos and Chris Sale were both excellent, and Santos got his 24th save of the season.

The two teams will play the third game of their four game set on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 P.M., CDT.
