Bears Reportedly Reach Agreement With Free Agent Wide Receiver Roy Williams

The Chicago Bears have been lacking a big, possession receiver for a few seasons now, and they just couldn't seem to bring that type of player into the fold. But now it appears as if they have finally brought in a player who can meet that roster requirement, a safety valve for Jay Cutler. The Bears have reportedly reached an agreement with former Cowboy and Lion wide receiver Roy Williams, according to our very own Michael David Smith at Pro Football Talk. Williams will once again work with offensive coordinator Mike Martz, and that worked out pretty well last time.

Williams and Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz worked together in Detroit in 2006 and 2007, when Martz was the Lions’ offensive coordinator. Those were by far Williams’ two best seasons in the NFL; he had 82 catches for 1,310 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006 and 64 catches for 838 yards and five touchdowns despite missing four games in 2007.

Williams disappointed during his time in Dallas considering what the team gave up for him in a trade, but if he isn't expected to be the big play threat that he was in Detroit, he can probably provide a nice target for Jay Cutler, and a nice change of pace that will force the defense to adjust the way they defend the pass against the Bears.

We'll have more on this signing, including reaction from all side involved, in this StoryStream. But for more on the Bears check out Windy City Gridiron. And head over to SB Nation for the latest on every Free Agent Signing.
