In both of the first two games of their series in Detroit, the White Sox pitching staff gave up nine runs. Sox fans, and fantasy baseball owners of John Danks, hope that won't happen for a third straight day. The Sox are just 1-5 on this road trip so far, and are seeking consistency in their offensive production. Carlos Quentin has been just about the only member of the team to reliably hit over the last week.
They'll look to John Danks to try to hold down the potent Tigers bats and give the Sox a a chance for a win. Danks has been a hard luck starter this year. Despite giving up two or fewer runs during three of his four starts, he's still winless on the year. His stat line currently sits at 0-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. In his career against the Tigers, Danks is 3-4 over 11 starts with a 4.12 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Though the lefty has done reasonably well against Miguel Cabrera, he's had trouble against Magglio Ordonez, who is 14-for-23 with two doubles and two home runs against him.
Going for the Tigers today will be young hurler Max Scherzer. Scherzer had a rough first start to the season, where he gave up six runs, but since then has been nearly lights out. His overall ERA and WHIP are 4.30 and 1.70, but in this most recent three starts, he's given up two or fewer runs. He's only started four games against the Sox in his career, and across those he's 1-1 with a 3.34 ERA and 1.04 WHIP. Perhaps a turn or two against Scherzer will be enough to wake up Adam Dunn's bat. Dunn is 3-for-5 against Scherzer with two home runs over his career.
The weather in Detroit is forecast to be mostly cloudy with a high around 60 degrees. First pitch is at 12:05 P.M., CDT, and the game will be televised on WGN.
