Matt Forte Injury Update: Bears RB Considering Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection To Speed Recovery

On Monday afternoon, Sun-Times writer Sean Jensen tweeted that injured Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte is  considering a platelet-rich plasma injection, which could shorten his recovery time by a week.

As RB Matt Forte seriously considers platelet rich plasma injection to speed his recovery, a knee surgeon told me it can be effective

The injection usually takes place within 48 to 72 hours of the injury and can take a week to kick in and can shave a week off the injury

What is a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection, exactly? Wikipedia helps explain the intent. Essentially, it's supposed to stimulate the healing of bone and soft tissue. Other football players, like Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward, have gotten this injection to treat injuries, though there are questions within the medical community as to the efficacy of this form of treatment.
