Stay connected for news and updates

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each scored in a shootout against Niklas Backstrom to lift the Chicago Blackhawks past the Minnesota Wild 4-3 on Wednesday at the Xcel Energy Center. It was Kane who scored the final goal, a brilliant multi-deke move that saw the Chicago's star winger nearly come to a complete stop before putting in the decisive score.

Chicago and Minnesota entered the third tied at two. Toews gave Chicago a lead on a beautiful goal after he won a face-off. It was Toews team-leading 18th goal of the season, and it come off an assist from Viktor Stalberg.

The Wild would answer with five minutes left in the period when Mikko Koivu scored his eighth goal of the season off assists from Cal Clutterbuck and Clayton Stoner.

As one might expect, the final stats are fairly even. Chicago out-shot the Wild 31-30, while Minnesota won the face-off battle 35-30. Toews, who also added an assist on Marian Hossa's second period goal, was named the top star of the game.
