Manny's Ejection Sunday Last Straw For Dodgers

Ken Rosenthal reports that Manny’s ejection after one pitch on Sunday was likely the event that finally got the Dodgers to pull the trigger on the deal to the Sox:

Ramirez’s ejection one pitch into a pinch-hit at-bat against the Rockies likely was his final act in a Dodgers’ uniform.

The Dodgers intend to send Ramirez to the White Sox on Monday, either through a trade or by assigning his contract, according to a major-league source.

Ramirez is owed more than $4 million in salary, much of it deferred. If the teams are unable to complete a trade, the Dodgers can simply assign Ramirez to the White Sox on a waiver claim.

The teams are talking but have yet to reach a final agreement on the details of a transaction, according to one source with knowledge of the discussions.

LA Times Dodgers beat writer Dylan Hernandez tweets more information:

Sources said #Manny has indicated he would waive his no-trade clause even if he isn’t compensated. #Dodgers #WhiteSox

Hernandez also wrote that Manny will return to LA with the Dodgers tonight and await a final decision. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweeted that the final form of the deal may include a prospect:

#mlb #whitesox #dodgers Dodgers trying to decide whether to take 3B prospect Jon Gilmore and pay chunk of Manny’s salary or take the cash

Gilmore, currently playing for the Sox’ High-A affiliate at Winston-Salem in the Carolina League, was acquired by the Sox two years ago when they sent Javier Vazquez to the Braves. Gilmore turned 22 last week.
