Bears Keep Matt Gutierrez; Waive WR Peterman

The Bears’ signing of Todd Collins doesn’t mean recently signed Matt Gutierrez is gone; instead, the club has waived/injured wide receiver Eric Peterman:

That means he will revert to the club’s injured reserve Tuesday, provided he clears waivers.

Peterman suffered a thumb injury on the punt he muffed Saturday night against Oakland, one the Raiders recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Peterman will require surgery on the thumb.

Bears Sign Todd Collins As Backup QB

Via press release from the Bears this morning:

The Chicago Bears signed QB Todd Collins to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Collins has completed 381 of 674 passing attempts (56.6 percent) for 4,479 yards, 22 touchdowns and 19 interceptions to compile a 76.0 passer rating in 47 games (20 starts) with the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins. Collins was originally drafted in the second round (45^th overall) of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills out of the University of Michigan.

The Bears will announce a corresponding roster move later today.
