White Sox Good Play Continues, Beat Up On Indians 7-2

Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - Mark Teahen had three hits and drove in three runs while Alex Rios homered, carrying Chicago to a 7-2 win over Cleveland in the opener of a three-game set at Progressive Field.

John Danks (4-3) labored through five frames to earn the win, as he allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. He also fanned five and tossed 112 pitches for the White Sox, who ended a five-game losing streak to theIndians.

Juan PierreA.J. PierzynskiOmar Vizquel and Gordon Beckham each had two hits for Chicago, which won for a third time in the last four games.

Lou Marson and Jason Donald picked up a pair of hits each for the Indians, who have dropped seven of their last eight.

The White Sox wasted no time getting on the board, as Pierre started the game with a single, advanced to third base on an Pierzynski single and came in to score on a Rios fielder's choice grounder. Rios swiped second base and scored when Mark Kotsay lined an opposite field double down the left field line with two outs. Andruw Jones kept the inning going with a walk and Teahen then drove a double the other way into left-center field to chase home both runners to push the Sox lead to 4-0.

Cleveland put runners at second and third with nobody out in the third, but Danks squirmed out of trouble by retiring Trevor Crowe on a comebacker, striking out Shin-Soo Choo and getting Austin Kearns to fly out.

Beckham and Pierre opened the fourth with singles and advanced on a Pierzynski sacrifice bunt before Rios was intentionally passed to load the bases. Masterson then uncorked his third wild pitch of the game to allow Beckham to score and extend the visitors' lead to 5-0.

The Indians put runners at second and third with nobody out in the home fourth and finally got on the board on Matt LaPorta's ground out that scored Russell Branyan, who had started the inning with a single. Marson followed with a base hit that delivered Jhonny Peralta, who had doubled, from second base to trim the lead to 5-2.

Aaron Laffey tossed two scoreless innings behind Masterson before giving up a run in the seventh on a two-out single by Teahen off the glove of second baseman Mark Grudzielanek that scored Paul Konerko.

Rios led off the ninth with his long ball off Hector Ambriz to finish the scoring.

Sergio SantosMatt ThorntonJ.J. Putz and Bobby Jenks each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win for the White Sox. The four relievers allowed only one hit and one walk and fanned three.

Vizquel's single in the fifth inning was his 2,674th hit as a shortstop, tying Luis Aparicio for second all-time in that category among shortstops. The White Sox unretired the number 11 so Vizquel could wear it this season to honor Aparicio, his hero and fellow Venezuelan...His second hit moved him past Dave Parker into 58th place on the all-time hit list with 2,713...Danks ended a personal three-game losing streak and won for the first time in five May starts. He is 8-3 in his last 18 road starts...Teahen has hit safely in seven straight, while Pierzynski has hit safely in seven of his last eight games. Masterson's last win came over the Angels on August 20 of last season...He has lost his last 11 decisions...The Indians are 2-19 when they score three runs or less...The White Sox game that was rained out in Detroit on May 17 will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on August 3 at 1:05 p.m. (et). The teams will play the regular scheduled game that night at 7:05 p.m. (et).
