The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Jeff Stevens from Triple-A Iowa and placed right-handed pitcher Esmailin Caridad on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
Stevens, 26, has recorded a 2.60 ERA (5 ER/17.1 IP) with no record in 12 relief appearances for Iowa this season, limiting the opposition to a .180 batting average (11-for-61) including a .115 mark (3-for-26) against right-handed batters. He has stranded four of five inherited runners while holding the other team scoreless in nine outings, including is last four appearances (9.0 IP). The righthander has struck out 21 in 17.1 innings of work, an average of 10.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched, while walking 10.

Confirmed by the Cubs: Caridad placed on 15-day DL. Stevens called up.
